Security & Forensics
Activity Focus:
The focus of
C-DAC's Cyber Security Technologies Division (CST), Mohali is to develop futuristic internet security technologies
Projects Undertaken
Project Name: " Development of Distributed Honeynet system "
Sponsoring agencies: Ministry of Information Technology , New Delhi.
Duration Of The Project: Three Year
Brief Description
In 2005, (CST) group then named as SMED started working in the area of Network security. The first effort done by the group in this direction was the project named as “Attack Methodology Analysis, Network Attack Modeling & Survivability Simulation”. The project envisages R&D in the area of Attack methodology analysis, attack modeling using Honeynet as a base technology leading to the development of tools and mechanisms for collection, correlation, analysis and finally modeling of the attacks. Successful deployment and up gradation of Honeynet technology was also a part of this project under which we have successfully studied, deployed and enhanced the three variants of high interaction honeynets(GEN I, GEN II, GEN III).
Project Name: " Attack Methodology Analysis, Network Attack Modeling & Survivability Simulation "
Sponsoring agencies: Ministry of Information Technology , New Delhi.
Duration Of The Project: Two Year
Brief Description
A Distributed Honeynet System is a collection of Honeynets that are distributed throughout the Internet or other large network and sends data to a central analysis point. Such a system that detects large-scale coordinated attacks and distinguishes between manual / targeted attacks & automated attacks will play a critical intelligence-gathering role for network defenders, since it will observe a broader range of attack activity than a single honeynet; it will observe attack activity from different types of attackers. This will provide early warning of new attacks and extensive attack data that can be analyzed as a first step toward developing preventive and defensive measures.
Training
Apart from the development of cutting edge technologies like honeynet, the group also actively launches various training courses to make masses trained and spread awareness about the various aspects of cyber security. There are expert training programs for industry personals and some boot start programs for fresher and students to give them the exposure of the current trends and technologies involved in cyber security. The long-term objective of this group are:
- To do research directed towards innovative product development in the field of cyber security, which can be put to commercial use.
- Research and development for the advancement of Honeynet technologies and for establishment of its need in industry as a commercial production systems.
- To make masses aware about the new trends and technologies in the domain cyber security.
