e-Suraksha Training Program
A Training Programme on e-Suraksha
(A Practical Approach in Network Security)
at
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)
Mohali in association with
Department of Information Technology
Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Government of India
Course Objective
Information Technology (IT) has become the nerve center for today's commerce transactions, Government functioning, manufacturing, law & order, high-end research and other strategically important areas such as space and military. Moreover the strategic and privacy value of the information flowing through the computer networks of any organization makes it very important to see that this information is not stolen, tampered or opened to unauthorized access. The security of the information and the information resources cannot just be entrusted to the technology alone. We need to reach a hybrid solution integrated with human and technology factor into it. Most of the breaches occur because of the lack of awareness to the user and ignorance of the security mechanisms and policies.
Most of the security breaches can be averted if we can configure our networks and systems with the basic security mechanisms that are built into the software and hardware components such as operating system, web server, router etc. Lack of awareness to these built in security mechanisms or negligence in configuring it results in weak cyber infrastructure prone to host of vicious attacks. In view of the above C-DAC has planned a 5-day training programme for the system administrators to configure their systems with adequate security. The course is designed to focus on both the conceptual and the practical aspects of the security features
About C-DAC Mohali:
C-DAC (Erstwhile CEDTI) Mohali, established in 1989 in the ELTOP(Electronics Town of Punjab) Complex, caters to the training, consultancy, design and product development needs of electronics and information technology industry and allied sectors.
C-DAC (Erstwhile CEDTI) Mohali, an institute under the Government of India, is the first society of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to have an ISO 9001:2000 certification, which reflects the quality in conceptualization, design, implementation and monitoring of the training programs. The certification is a testimony of international quality in system that governs its well structured and regularly updated trainings with global acceptance.
C-DAC, Mohali is engaged in research in the domains of e-Security, Health informatics, software technologies and Professional electronics.
Background of ISEA
Information security needs to be addressed at all levels, from the individual user to an organization and beyond to that of the government and the nation. Information Security is becoming synonymous with National Security as Computer Networking, which is vulnerable to cyber attacks, forms the backbone of critical infrastructure of the country banking, power, communication network etc. It is, therefore, important to have secured Computer Systems and Networks. Also, increased focus on outsourcing of IT and other services from developed countries is bringing the issue of data security to the fore.
Looking at the growing importance for the Information Security, Department of Information Technology has identified this as a critical area. Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Project was formulated and launched for over a period of five years. C-DAC Mohali has been assigned the responsibility of executing this project by Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India. As part of this activity, C-DAC, Mohali is amongst the few Participating Institutes (PIs) in organizing the various Information Security awareness events
