In case you have lost your debit card at an ungodly hour and want to block the debit card immediately to prevent risks of fraud transactions, your easiest and most potent method would be to reach out to the customer service via SBI’s toll-free number.

The two active SBI toll-free numbers are 1800 11 2211 and 1800 425 3800.

You can call either one of the two. However, ensure that you are making the call from the registered mobile number only. This is crucial, especially if you want prompt results and instant blocking of the card. 

Since you are calling from the registered number, half of the verification is done from that only. Once the customer service agent has all your details and your grievance, they will guide you through the steps that you need to follow to block your SBI debit card. 

Under this, there are a few ways you can block the SBI debit card.

Using Account Number

During the call with the customer service agents, they will likely ask you about your card details. However, not everyone indeed has their card number memorized or written down. If that is the case with you, the account number works too. 

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Call on 1800 11 2211 or 1800 425 3800 from your registered mobile number
  • Follow the IVR instructions and press 0 to select the Card Blocking menu. Under that, press 2 and enter your SBI account number
  • Press 1 to confirm
  • Once confirmed and verified, your SBI debit card will be blocked immediately.

Using Last Five Digits of ATM Card

If you remember the last five digits of your SBI ATM card, you can use that to block the debit card as well. For that, you need to follow the steps mentioned:

  • Call on 1800 11 2211 or 1800 425 3800 from your registered mobile number
  • Press 0 to select Card blocking. From there, press 1 to enter the last five digits of your ATM card number
  • Press 1 to confirm the input you made
  • Once done, you need to press 2 and then re-enter the last five digits of the ATM card again
  • Once everything is verified, the SBI ATM card will be blocked.

How to Block SBI Debit Card by SMS?

If you can’t connect to customer care via toll-free numbers, you can block the SBI ATM card via SMS too. This is hands down the easiest method and one of the fastest too. Make sure that you send the SMS from the bank registered mobile number only.

For this, you need to SMS BLOCK XXXX to 567676. The XXXX signify the last four digits of your SBI ATM card. 

Once the bank receives the SMS, they will verify and immediately block the SBI Debit card for safety measures. You will also a reply with the ticket number and the date and time the card was blocked. You can use it as proof for future references if needed.

How to Block SBI Debit Card Using YONO App?

If you have SBI’s YONO application installed on your mobile phone, you can also block the SBI ATM debit card directly from there. It is quite a simple and accessible method, especially when you are looking at convenience.

For blocking the SBI ATM card, you need to follow the steps mentioned:

  • Start by opening the YONO app and logging into the portal.
  • Once you are on the homepage, you then need to navigate to Services and Requests.
  • From there, follow – “ATM/Debit Card” > “Enter Internet Banking Profile Password” > “Block Card”
  • Select the account and the card that you want to block
  • Under that, you can choose to block the debit card temporarily or permanently.
  • For confirmation, you will receive an OTP to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and you are sorted.

How to Block SBI Debit Card Using Netbanking?

Your last resort is to opt for net banking to block your SBI ATM card. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Visit onlinesbi.com from your browser
  • Log in to the portal and open the e-services tab
  • Select ATM Card Services>Block ATM Card
  • Select the account to which the ATM card is linked to
  • You then need to select the ATM card that you wish to block and select a reason why
  • Once done, click on Submit

For authentication, you will receive an OTP to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and your SBI ATM card will be blocked. Always make sure you have details handy.
