The season starts with the spotlight on Detective Chloe Decker, who supervises the murder investigation of Delilah, a popular musician. Chloe and Lucifer go hand in hand, more like Chloe always keeping up to him, intriguing Lucifer’s curiosity every time because of how immune she was to his supernatural persuasions.Â
Not only was Lucifer just curious about her, but he always made active efforts to stay in her close proximity too. Even the fact of him being mortal and susceptible to fatal events whenever he was near her wouldn’t stop him from doing so.Â
So much so that he also manipulated his way into the consulting position of the LAPD. And of course, drew edges between him and his force protector and loyal follower, Mazikeen. It’s safe to say that Chloe and Lucifer’s complicated relationship was what served as the highlight of the show throughout its entirety.Â
Before Lucifer even had a grand entrance into Chloe’s life, she was busy investigating a cop in LAPD who had his hands dirty. It was Malcolm, who was allegedly dealing with gangsters, giving them inside scoop of LAPD. When Chloe finds them out in the warehouse, an intense gun firing ensues – until a third person rushes in to the rescue, killing the mafia and sending Malcolm into a coma. Â

Season one ended with Lucifer desperately hunting for a cure that could alleviate Chloe’s illness. However, the only problem being that the only person who knew anything about it was dead, aka the professor. However, Lucifer is the former God of Hell – all he has to do is return them and get the information from the professor and that’d be it. But things weren’t quite that simple.Â
For starters, Lucifer needed to die in order to return to hell, and either Amenadiel or Maze had to do the honors. Amenadiel was chosen to keep an eye on Chloe, as if Chloe moved too far away from Lucifer, he will become immortal again, barring him from returning to the plane of living.Â
Amenadiel, much like the audience was pretty surprised given that Lucifer was willing to trust him with the life of someone so important to him. But Trixie believed that there was a good person inside of him, which kept Luci’s little brother going.Â
On the other hand, Maze was finding herself unable to kill Lucifer, given her feelings of intense loyalty and respect for him. Ironic how a character with a hard, steel exterior had the softest heart. But somehow, they do manage to kill Lucifer and he returns to hell to fetch the formula from the professor.Â
But there were obstacles here too. Lucifer gets a vision of Uriel, even though he wasn’t quite real. Lucifer sinks into guilt and gets compelled to kill him time and again until his mother Charlotte comes to her son’s rescue.Â
Charlotte confesses that she had been manipulating Lucifer all this while, but when Uriel turns to her, she promises that if she stays she’d be able to reunite with her family. However, Lucifer drags his mother away before any fatal damage could be done to their bodies.Â

The third season comes with the big reveal of Cain being the murderer. Chloe and Cain start to develop an intimate relationship with each other, much to Lucifer’s dismay. He gets jealous about it all, especially about the fact that Cain was there for Chloe when he himself couldn’t be. Plus, Chloe started to spend more and more time with Cain too, which didn’t help Lucifer’s situation much either.Â
It was soon that Lucifer realized he wanted Chloe to choose him instead of someone else. He thus ends up at her place to confess his love, but much to his surprise finds Cain down on one knee, proposing to Chloe to marry him. And even more astonishingly, Chloe says a yes.Â
Soon the to-be-married couple hosts a bachelorette party each, but Chloe realizes in her own that the reason why she said yes to Cain was Lucifer, the same for which she’d say a no. She thus goes to Cain and calls off the marriage, and even breaks the engagement. Post this incident, she returns to lucifer and both of them start to get close to each other again.Â
Lucifer finally puts his feelings down on the table by telling Chloe that he loves her. He adds that she might love him for a part of his personality, as she is yet to see the whole of it. By whole, he meant his devil’s side, one which he couldn’t prove to Chloe since his devil face was gone. Chloe then counters by saying that isn’t very likely of her, and both of them share a kiss.
Elsewhere, Cain attempts to slaughter Amenadielle but instead suffers a misfire and shoots Charlotte. Amenadielle gets his wings back, and Lucifer and Chloe get to know about the mishap and rush to find out more about it. Upon reaching the spot, Cain starts firing and tries to kill them both, resulting in Chloe losing her consciousness. Lucifer comes to her rescue and protects her from the bullets with his wings.

The last season ended with a major cliffhanger where Chloe got to see Lucifer’s devilish face. We all thought that she would probably accept Lucifer for who he was, and maybe have a hard time coping up with it but that’s about it.Â
However, tables turn when she instead decides to pair up with Father Kinley to out Lucifer and send him back to Hell for good. However, things pan out pretty well in the end when she finally is able to let go of her fears and accept Lucifer for who he is, when she stood by him through his devil transformation and even confessed to him her love.
As if things weren’t already pretty patchy with Chloe and Lucifer that Eve, Lucifer’s ex decides to drop in to make everything all the more complicated. The former loves hit it off as well, but the romance was only short-lived, thanks to Lucifer’s deep, dire feelings for Chloe.Â
Later, Eve and Maze hit it off together too, but the former realizes they have a lot of soul searching to do, rather than allowing a bunch of relationships to distract her from her true purpose. Their love dies out young, and they set out on their own separate ways.Â
Amenadiel and Linda’s exclusive relationship was taken up a notch in season four when they had a part-angel part human son, Charlie. And this little uniquely made human was enough to lure the devils back from Hell to make him their King.Â
So much so that Lucifer had to end up returning to Hell for once and for all, when he realizes that his territory has been going awry without his direct supervision for too long. What happens to the unfinished business that he leaves behind on Earth after he dies is a story for season five to tell.

Sticks and stones might hurt your bones but the twists in season five are only going to boggle your mind. For starters, Lucifer gets shot by Dan who was instructed to do so by his own twin mother albeit evil, Michael. And it was easy manipulating Dan, thanks to Lucifer’s spooky devil face that sent a chill down his spine and an immediate SOS signal to protect his daughter Trixie and former wife Chloe. You can’t really blame him for being a protective husband and a dad, now.
Next was an even greater twist when the bullets fired with Chloe in close proximity but Lucifer did not die – and has left us all confused how. If we go by the rules, Lucifer turns into a mortal around Chloe but this time things took a whole different turn. There have been hints at the fact that it is so because he doesn’t feel vulnerable around Chloe anymore, also implying that he might not be in love with her anymore either.
Elsewhere, LAPD continues to investigate the serial killer who has been killing women in the city, only to find out that there are not one but rather two killers to begin with. Further digging by Chloe got uncovered the fact that one of them was Michael, and that’s right – he’s back on Earth.Â
Things got all the more complicated when it turned out that the other killer was Pete, Ella’s husband. Just when poor Ella thought she was getting the happiness she deserved, her life fell apart. Dan later filled in on the details of Michael’s whereabouts when he took Chloe hostage, an alleged den where he was taken via flight but had no clue about since he passed out on the way.Â
The series ends with Amenadiel freezing time, stopping the mortals and having no effect on the godly beings. Amenadiel, Maze, Lucifer, and Michael start to have a devastating fight when a third person steps in – one whom we’ve all been waiting for since half a decade.Â
Lucifer’s father, God.
And that’s where the season ends.
